Course Description

This intensive course is designed for learners who have demonstrated an intermediate-level of proficiency in Chinese. Its primary objective is to enhance students' linguistic and communicative competence across all language domains, including listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translating. Additionally, the course offers an in-depth exploration of Chinese culture and society. Suggested Learning Hours: 120-135 hours By the middle of the course, you will be able to: 1. Communicate effectively in advanced-level Chinese, utilizing accurate pronunciation and appropriate tone usage. 2. Master the most frequently used Chinese characters in addition to previously acquired characters, words/phrases, and core sentences. 3. Speak and write short essays of around 700 to 800 characters using standard modern Chinese to discuss a variety of topics. 4. Master 2200 characters, 7337 words, and 522 grammar points (for the new HSK stream); or master 2500 characters, 9473 words, 73 affixes, and 496 grammar points (for the TOCFL stream). During the latter half of the course, we will focus on enhancing your communicative competence, with a particular emphasis on speaking, reading, and writing. You will be exposed to a range of topical discussions and presentations that offer insights into Chinese society and culture. Learning Outcomes: 1. Demonstrate an improvement in overall communicative competence, including the ability to communicate accurately, fluently, and coherently in advanced-level Chinese. 2. Effectively deliver and express complex ideas in short speeches. 3. Master complex grammar, patterns/structures, set phrases, and core sentences. 4. Write short essays and compositions using standard modern Chinese grammar and sentence structures to discuss various social topics. 5. Achieve the highest level of proficiency: Level 9 of HSK, mastering 3000 characters, 11092 words, and 572 essential grammar points; or achieve the highest level of proficiency: Level 7 of TOCFL, mastering 3100 characters, 14470 words, 73 affixes, and 496 grammar points.
